The Scouting Report on Crockett

Welcome to the home page for CRUSH: Cloud Rim (Utah) Supporters of Half-milers.
CRUSH was formed to honor Texas 800-meter man Aaron Crockett, who spent four weeks at the Cloud Rim Girl Scout Camp this past July.
Crockett's sleek physique and luminous personality captured the hearts of most if not all campers -- several of whom stayed an extra week just to be in his general vicinity for a bit longer.
Initially, camp counselors tried to suppress the youngsters' affection for the McKinney, Texas native.
They forbade the writing of love letters after Crockett was flooded with fan mail, and they guarded the camp's paths in the evening to prevent star-struck girls from visiting Crockett's trailer.
In light of the scouts' continuing devotion, however, it was decided that their harmless fascination with the lanky heartthrob could best be handled via the creation of a fan club.
Although CRUSH is based in northern Utah, it has attracted the attention of Girl Scout administrators throughout the country.
"Aaron is a fine young man and an excellent role model for our girls," says Sara Mills, executive chairman of Girl Scouts USA.
"He has exhibited tremendous discipline and perseverance in attaining the rank of Eagle Scout and, more recently, in rising to the top of the collegiate track world."
Perhaps the biggest tribute to Crockett, however, is still to come.
Next spring, the Girl Scouts -- makers of such treats as the Thin Mint, the Trefoil, and the Samoa -- will premiere a new cookie called the Longhorn.
This steer-shaped concoction will consist of a marshmallow nougat center surrounded by concentric layers of peanut butter, caramel, and milk chocolate.
"We are very excited about the debut of this new product," says Mills.
"Our main concern is that the boxes of Longhorns may not ever make it to the customers, since many scouts will be reluctant to part with an Aaron-related item."
